PILES/ HEMORRHOIDS
What are Piles?
“Piles” is a layman word and “Hemorrhoids” is the medical term which is nothing but enlarged and tortious blood vessels in the anal canal.
These piles or hemorrhoids are mainly of two types
-
External hemorrhoids or external piles
-
Internal hemorrhoids or internal piles
External hemorrhoids are generally painful whereas internal hemorrhoids are painless unless they prolapse out and strangulate.
Internal hemorrhoids are very common; They are again of four types depending upon the grade of prolapse.
Stage 1: In this stage there will not be any prolapse during defecation. Only feature found is painless bleeding.
Stage 2: In this stage piles come out during defecation and they spontaneously reduce by its own. Many a times person won’t recognize this
Stage 3: in this stage piles come out during defecation and won’t go in spontaneously. They need to be reduced manually.
Stage 4: in this stage they come out during defecation and they remain outside even after the defecation. If this stage is neglected, results in strangulation (twisting of hemorrhoids) thrombosis (clotting of blood in hemorrhoid) and suppuration (infection)
