What is Pilonidal Sinus?

          Pilonidal sinus is an inflammatory swelling in the natal cleft above the buttocks which generally contains tuft of hair, commonly found in young people

 

What Causes Pilonidal Sinus?

  • Obesity

  • Too much hairs on the body.

  • Improper hygiene

  • Prolonged sitting/driving

  • Deep natal cleft

  • Adolescent age

  • Family history

  • Local trauma

What are Symptoms of Pilonidal Sinus?

  • Pain at tail bone

  • Swelling in the natal cleft

  • Recurrent pus and blood discharge from natal cleft region

  • One or more midline pits in the natal cleft

 

What is the Site of Pilonidal Sinus?

          The commonest site is natal cleft but we often find pilonidal sinus in the umbilicus, axilla, interdigital area and inter mamillary area of the breast

 

How to Manage Pilonidal Sinus?

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT

  • Acute pilonidal abscess can be managed with medication

  • Chronic pilonidal sinus can be managed with incision and drainage

 

MANAGEMENT BY SURGERY

     Surgery is the only option for chronic Pilonidal Sinus

  • Laying open the sinus

  • Complete removal of the sinus

  • Removal of the sinus followed by repair

  • ‘Z’ plasty

  • Multiple ‘Z’ plasty

  • ‘V Y’ plasty

  • KARYDAKIS flap

  • Phenol injection

Why Pilonidal Sinus is having Recurrence?

          Even though there were lot of treatments available there is a high rate of recurrence and no modern technique proved 100 percent successful in preventing recurrence.

 

What we do at Nalam Ayurveda?

We administer these treatments through Kshara Karma and Kshara Sutra, performed as outpatient procedures under local anesthesia. Following the operation, we advise regular dressing using Ayurvedic medicated oils. Patients can resume their normal activities the day after the procedure. Our approach ensures a cure for the condition without recurrence or complications.
